If you’ve followed my articles for a while, you know two things. Firstly, I’m not a fan of body cleanse diets. Secondly, I really like soup.
So, let’s combine those two today. Body detoxes are a staple in health blogs. But, they can do more harm than good.
Let’s see why!
What’s the problem with a body detox?
Most people know what’s a body cleanse. But, they might not know its intricacies. Essentially, body cleanses deprive your body of crucial nutrients.
But, they do a bit more than that.
Body cleanses have questionable foundations
There’s almost no scientific support behind detox diets’ claims. Moreover, our bodies already detox naturally. So, they’re not necessary.
Solid food already works for body detox
Likewise, solid food already offers fiber and other nutrients. Fiber is key here since it helps our bodies detox via stools.
Shedding solids entirely is often a bad idea
So, eliminating solids is almost irrelevant for detoxing. Reducing calories also lowers our overall energy.
The side effects aren’t worth the body cleanse
They include more cravings, metabolic disruption, gastrointestinal issues, and more. Eating fewer calories and protein is also far from ideal.
Why are soups better for a body detox?
On the flipside, soups can provide a better body cleanse. We’ve already compared them with the Atkins diet. But, how are they better than your regular cleanse?
They’re more nutritious
Firstly, you can add vegetables and protein to your soups. That way, you’re not giving up so much fiber, proteins, and calories.
You get fewer cravings from body cleanses
You’ll also feel fuller with soups—mainly due to the extra ingredients. Soups are great for losing weight because of that. For detoxes, you’ll feel more comfortable.
Replacing all meals isn’t necessary
Finally, you don’t have to eat only soup. For weight loss, you can replace one or two meals. For detoxes, we already covered replacing meals isn’t ideal.
The holistic takeaway
Overall, we don’t really need a body detox. But, I can understand if you feel like having one. Still, I don’t recommend body cleanses at all.
That said, you must do it properly if you want to do it at all. So, soups are your best bet.
